The exhibition of photography and video art entitled “the sea is my land. Artists from the Mediterranean” is on display at MAXXI (the National Museum of the Arts of the 21st century) in Rome, Italy from 4th July to 29th September 2013. Perla Innocenti (University of Glasgow) visited the exhibition on 5th July and was inspired by works. The photographs (for example the ones by Syrian artist Ammar Abd Rabbo, one of the Arab world’s most important photojournalists) reminded her of the themes of similarity and identity discussed by Sreten Ugričić in the MeLa book European Crossroads, and of the MeLa research on networks to allow more flexible and heterogenic connections to be considered within the European/Mediterranean space.
