This event, organized by ICCU, is included in the official program of the Italian Presidency and is organized in collaboration with the European Commission, the Europeana Foundation and the European project AthenaPlus, the European network of good practices coordinated by ICCU.

The Italian Presidency represents a strategic opportunity to propose a workplan shared at European level on the topic of reuse and exploitation of digital cultural heritage. Digital Cultural Content Re-imagined: New Avenues for the Economy and Society (Venice, 16-17 October 2014)

 

It is becoming ever more important that Cultural Institutions and the Creative Industries connect, to explore new opportunities and unlock the business potential of digital cultural heritage. The Europeana Space project, including representatives of both sectors, intends to demonstrate the long-term value and mutual benefit of creating an open, fertile environment where digital cultural content can be re-used entrepreneurially, to develop innovative creative applications and viable products.

This two-day conference will cover key topics related to re-use of cultural contents in creative Industries, and will present the 6 thematic pilots (including museums) to be developed by Europeana Space, which are going to explore new possibilities of creative reuse of digital cultural content.

This volume, produced within MeLa Research Field 03 activities and edited by Perla Innocenti, collects a series of essays, case studies and interviews exploring diverse European perspectives on interdisciplinary collaborations between cultural institutions. Twenty international scholars and practitioners from seven European countries discuss cross-domain partnerships, cultural identity and cultural dialogue, heritage for the arts and sciences, European narratives, migration and mobility, and describe real-life case studies in museums, libraries, foundations, associations and online portals.

Conference report – International conference DISH 2011

University of Glasgow attended Digital Strategies for Heritage 2011 (DISH), 6 – 9 December 2011 Rotterdam, The Netherlands. DISH is a bi-annual conference that unites digital strategies with international professionals in heritage.

The four themes of DISH encompassed the four most important perspectives from which to view the digitisation of heritage: Business for Heritage; Co-creation and Crowdsourcing; Institutional change; Building a New Public Space.
